To describe geneticist, Dr. Rebecca Cleave, as brilliant would be to downplay her abilities.  Some say she is an artist mixed with a scientist, but her career suddenly derailed when her husband Ezra Cleave was diagnosed with vascular Ehlers-Danlos syndrome. Ezra’s blood vessels and organs are fragile and prone to rupturing.  Eighty percent of people with this form of the disease develop life-threatening complications by age 40, at 44, Ezra has surpassed the odds, but his health is now failing.  This terrible genetic disease has no cure … unless Rebecca can find one.

While assisting in locating the gene that will trigger the transition in Mer-human hybrids, she has become convinced that Mer DNA may hold the cure to save her husband. Even if she can convince Aemrys to let her investigate pure Mer DNA, does Ezra have enough time left for her to save him?

  • Oh my gosh I love the disability rep in your books already but now a character with the exact same disease as me! I’ve always referred to myself as a mermaid since I drink so much salt for the fainting, and the only time my joints don’t hurt is in water, and I love being in cold water and can’t tolerate any heat or dryness without a bunch of problems, plus rice and fish is pretty much all I eat without upsetting my stomach. They call EDSers zebras but I swear we’re mermaids!!! I’m so so excited to read this!!!

  • With the new pictures and all I'm impressed. But Becca here looks almost anorexic with her ribs showing as they are. And her cheekbones, too.

    Which one? This volume doesn't really answer a lot of things from the last one. There will be more stories.

    I think Musicalife means last chapter, where Cthulu's statue is stolen by the student and brought onto the land.
