PROLOGUE – THE KIN

 

In 5027 C.E., the Kin came to Earth.  Their massive spaceships filled Earth’s skies like worldwide thunderclouds.  Their flagship, The Abyss, alone had caused a shadow to fall over the entirety of the San Angeles Megalopolis.  If the Kin had come for a fight, with their vastly superior technology and physiology, humanity’s days might very well have been numbered.  But no shots were ever fired.

 

Instead, the Kin made humans an offer.  They would share their advanced technology with the Earthian High Command in exchange for one simple thing.

 

Human blood.

 

It was clear that the Kin could simply take what they wanted so the decision to agree to the bargain was easily made.  Fifty years later, however, humanity has begun to wonder if accepting this bargain was far worse than a quick annihilation would have been.

 

The Kin have a darker name now.  It is whispered on human lips with a quick glance over their shoulders: Vampires.

 

But humanity is not completely without hope.  There are some who can penetrate the dark world of blood, sex and power that are at the center of Kin society and come out unscathed.  They may even be able to bring others out with them.

 

One of these people is Seren Balthasar.  A private detective.  A scientist.  An observer and an actor when it’s called for.

 

This is one of his cases.
