The Erl-King: The Hunt tells the tale of how Alric Koenig acquired his most faithful servant, Jordan Frasier. The manga begins with Alric spinning a familiar story to his son Ethan of how he saved Jordan from a violent animal attack, but the sanitized and edited tale that Ethan receives is far from the truth. The story takes the reader back in time to the 1920s and Germany's Black Forest. It shows how Alric is not the rich businessman he appears to be in the current age, but is instead the dread Erl-King. Alric's desire to adapt to the modern world ensnares Jordan in a terrible curse and ensures that the only family his servant will ever have will be the Erl-King's own.
This novella goes hand-in-hand with the manga being created by Mathia Arkoniel.
The Hunt Characters
Alric Koenig/The Erl-King
Alric appears to be a wealthy businessman in modern times, but he was not always such. He is the dread Erl-King. His people are dying and he is determined not to be one of the lost. He has decided to join the human world, but he needs a bridge, a teacher, to get him there.
Ethan Koenig
Ethan is Alric's beloved son. In his eyes, there is no one better than his father. He only knows his father as a wealthy businessman, having no clue as to Alric's true nature as the Erl-King. But he is fascinated with Alric's mysterious history and begs his father to tell him about how Alric and their devoted servant, Jordan, met.
Jordan Frasier
Jordan is Alric's devoted servant, but he once had a family: a wife and son. Why he left them, the scars on his cheek, and how he came into Alric's service is the subject of this story.
Elizabeth Frasier
Liz is Jordan's wife. She has fallen out of love with him and despises his love of the woods. She thinks his romantic nature gets in the way of them having the life they should.
Nicholas Frasier
Nicholas is Jordan and Liz's son. Liz is afraid that the boy takes too much after his father. He is Jordan's pride and joy. Nicolas is the only thing that makes their marriage tolerable to Jordan
