Burn Paranormal Romance Novel Prologue
PROLOGUE – NO MORE DELAMERES
“It’s a curse.”
“Mom – wh-what?”
“The power within you, Xander, it’s a curse.”
“I -- I don’t understand.”
“I know. But you need to, and quickly, because you don’t have all that much time. You see, this curse is going to kill you. Just like it did your father.”
“MOM?!”
“Hush, Xander, don’t cry. You must listen closely to what I’m telling you.”
“You’re saying I’m going to die like Daddy! Be like Daddy in the coffin!”
“We all die, sweetheart. It’s how we live our lives, however short, that matters. Are you calmer now? Can you listen?”
“Y-yeah. I guess.”
“It all started a long time ago. The four original families of Sanctuary: the Kings, the Solomons, the Glassiers and the Delameres, all had the curse. The Kings were given power over water. The Solomons claimed air. And the Glassiers took earth.”
“What about the Delameres?”
“The Delameres?” She hesitated. “They controlled fire. But there are no more Delameres.”
“Why not, Mom?”
Xander’s mother sat silently for a long moment, staring straight ahead at the coffin that held her husband of only ten years. Her widow’s weeds made her looked drained of life even as sunlight from the church’s windows spilled over her.
“Mom, why are there no more Delameres?”
Finally, her gray eyes turned and met her son’s. “The curse burned them away."

Burn Characters
Xander King
Xander is one of the most popular boys at Delamere Prep. Cassie Alexander has been in love with him since they were both 5 years old. But it isn't until he discovers that she, too, has the Burn. The Burn is a curse that grants the person power over an element.
Xander's element is water.
Christian Soloman
Christian is one of Xander's two best friends. He is interested in having fun at all costs. He never wants to be serious and seems best suited to surfing at the beach. He also has the Burn.
Christian's element is air.
Shane Glassier
Shane is Xander's other best friend. He is the most serious of the three. He also has a secret. He's in love with Christian who has no idea of his feelings.
Shane's element is earth.
